    Glossary: German mortgage terms explained

    Back to glossary

Notarkosten are the fees for the notarial certification of the purchase contract and the handling of the transfer of ownership.

They are set by the German court and notary fees act and, together with land register costs, are usually around 1.5 to 2% of the purchase price. A notary is legally required for property purchases in Germany.
